lol, it's just a Welsh name. And I think not very common. I've never encountered anyone called Bronwyn. I would agree with you about the Muffy-Dusty type. Though if it's their real name, it's not their fault. It's their parents' fault.

I had a cousin who named her daughters "Vicki" and "Mitzi". I made the mistake of asking what they were nicknames for.
