Ground EMFs exist, you said it yourself. Those EMFs interact with anything that comes in contact with it. So when a Tesla is parked over said field, that field can intereact with Teslas battery cells causing the battery to heat up leading to thermal runaway.

This is why Teslas switch to honeycomb sandwich battery packs is important. These battery packs should do a better job absorbing the EMF energy so the battery cells do not. Thus leading to reduced incidences of thermal runaway and thus fires, just as Musk said.
