Tesla is not unique Range Rover Velar uses the same door handle system. Door is enginered to obtain 5 stars rating on crash test, so you can open the door with a impact up to 45-50 km/h. To have or not to have an exposed handle doesn't make difference when the door is deformed and you cannot open it anyway. In this incident the big problem was fire, not the door handle.



All Tesla model car doors can open manually in the case of an accident not dependent on anything electrical.
