Unless one works out of a trading salon (do those even exist anymore?), day-trading is a very solitary occupation.

Man is, at his core, a social animal. I think the reason many traders post here is to create a sense of community with other traders. I, for one, know not one single person outside cyberspace who day-trades. I used to bore my non-cyberspace friends with enthusiastic explanations of what I do for 10-12 hours a day. They don't get it, don't want to get it, and (except to the extent they care about me) couldn't care less. So, one turns to cyber-fellow-traders to air one's victories and defeats, share ideas, and hopefully learn something in the process(not to mention, for me, filling a need that spares my friends from being bored out of their minds by my trading revelations).

Nothing sinister there.
