I can't say that it will happen, but fuel cell powered vehicles may also dominate the future. I've read that new long hauling trucks are seriously working on hydrogen fueled vehicles that have ranges in excess of 600 miles and can be fueled in minutes.

I want my next car to have self driving capability, Tesla is probably the leader, though others are performing well too. It must either be electric or fuel cell and while I've seen some nice looking fuel cell vehicles, I don't know that any have yet developed the self driving to nearly what Tesla can provide. I also must be convinced that I can get where I want to go in a fuel cell vehicle. I believe the distribution of hydrogen is growing slowly, it needs to be accelerated to really make it viable. The beauty of it is the fill is roughly as fast as fueling with gas.
