A Naked Short is when someone sells a stock they didn't even borrow. There is NO underlying collateral. A Naked Short Trap is what happened to the hedge funds in Gamestop (GME). Hedge funds and MM had shorted 140% of the OS. So when the price rose, they literally couldn't buy enough shares to cover themselves because they had shorted more than 100% of the OS. That was the trap.
