I sat next to an engineer from Ford on a flight from LA to Chicago nearly three decades ago. We had a great talk about things automotive. During our conversation he asked me, "Do you think of Ford as an automotive company or a technology company?"

I think that was and is a fair question for investors to contemplate. I believe at the time Ford had already been using their newer engine management computer (EEC-IV?) and had moved into a solid performance lead at that time. Each car I've owned from Ford over the years has been a major step forward in technology, quality and overall performance.

I don't use their "financial service" branch and would have to read up on their Smart Mobility LLC. For now I'm content to enjoy their Automotive segment, their stock and dividends when they pay them.
