I think you are being simplistic in conflating what I said down to the specific level of two individuals that likely had no part to play or otherwise why I did not have them as my context

Then with simplistic conflating claimed the female insurrectionist "likely had no part to play". In which case, had she stayed home, then and only then would she had no part to play. Every last one of em that entered the Capitol bldg "played their part".

One had an attempt to decapitate the Congressional leadership, while tossing in the VP. As in let's take out the direct line of succession to the POTUS. So yes, it was appropriate to "cut loose on the crowd at the door". As in massive tear gas release 1/2 way up the Capitol steps. And any in the crowd that make it thru with gas masks, promptly tasered, and arrested. Yes the Capitol police weren't prepared. But if all hands had been on deck, with ample riot equipment, it could have been handled. The step perimeter isn't that large.

One has to stop worrying about what the "appearance" would have been if they "cut loose on the crowd at the door". While shaking our heads in disgust at the Bullhorns, and other radicals dressed up with their MAGA hats. Instead consider what would've happened if the radicals had succeeded in murdering Congressional leadership. Then it would become one better than the Reichtag fire of 1933. With Drumpf subbing in as a modern day Hitler. Declaring a State of Emergency, and suspending the electoral vote permanently, along with the Constitution, and remaining in power. And yes he would've been able to call out the military to enforce it.
