That is only half of the story. What this moron forgot to tell you is that in all 50v states:

the consumer can overrule the substitution, but the laws determine the default option and consent requirements for the pharmacist.



In other words:

1) some logic states require pharmacists to substitute branded for generic

2) some of those states require pharmacist to notify patients, some do not

3) but IN ALL STATES, CONSUMER CAN OVERRULE THE SUBSTITUTION

Also here is NY pharmacy guide. From my quick scan, a pharmacist must substitute for the cheaper version... isn't V cheaper with a coupon? Nonetheless, consumer has the final say.
