Hey Raf the pharmacist told me is because the way my prescription was written by my doctor is the reason why NY state requires them to auto switch it to a generic once one becomes available.

My prescription was written as Icosapent Ethyl with Vascepa in quotes and not just Vascepa and DAW 0 which is "dispense as written but change to generic when available. I am sure NY state requires/teaches there doctors to do this so when a generic comes online it will automatically switch. I will be talking to my doctor of Monday to see if this is indeed how she wrote the prescription and why. However, to get what I want I have to have it changed to say Vascepa and DAW 1 which is dispense as written do not switch to generic.

I argued with the guy till I was blue in the face explaining the indication difference and that by switching me automatically Hikma was inducing infringement into Amarin's patents. He stated he did not know what I was taking if for and when the generic states it is an exact replacement that he has no other choice then to change me to the generic. Unless I have the prescription changed ot say Vascepa and DAW.

I haven't opened the bottle yet but will when I get confirmation I cannot return it to the pharmacy which I am pretty sure will be the case.

I will probably post my analysis sometime this coming week.
