To be honest with you I always thought the generic was the same. At different strengths, fillers it becomes unproven whether lifetime drugs provide the same results. For example, with the savings card I can get 90 day Lipitor for $12 vs free for the generic. No matter what I do my HDL is under 40 but when I took Lipitor it was over 40. I just read a study that head to head, the measured lipids were the same between Lipitor and the generic with one difference, the HDL was higher in the Lipitor group. That to me says the drug is not the same. Also, the price of the generics go up with no check in competition because of the favored tier. There have been recent federal suits against generics for colluding on price. In Canada, if you buy a generic from an online pharmacy you get the option to buy several brands from different countries. In the US you get whatever they stock. It’s time as consumers and patients we complain about the quality and safety of generic drugs. I feel if the brand is the same price or less than the generic it should be on the same favored tier.
