The long and short of it was all the other insurance companies settled pre trial and my co. decided to fight the case even though we knew the plaintiff was willing to accept 800k as a settlement from us. We went to trial and lost with a verdict of $14 million. Even though we were only offering $1 million in coverage we were required to pay the full $14 million because we had an opportunity to settle but didn’t and exposed our insured to significant financial loss by our inaction"
