My first car was a '53 Chevy. It was a tank. The other guy needed seat belts and air bags if there was an accident.
Are you living in the past? There were no seatbelts in the '50s. Or for most of the 60s. And I don't know when airbags were invented, but it was much later than that.
I might also point out that the idea that 50s and 60s cars were more solid--"built like tanks"--than today's models is just totally wrong. In head to head demonstration, they're demolished.
