Our son was 12 when he got his first phone. Which was 7th grade. And even then his mom didn't want him to have one. So as I said I compromised with him and suffered my wife arguing with me over it.

Trust me I got it that all his friends etc had one but I still insisted he not be stupid and his posts needed to be monitored.

There were instances in HS where kids would take screen shots of other kids posts who were bullying them and take them to the guidance counselor at school. That kid would disappear for a couple of days.

Our son's biggest problem was taking his phone to bed and posting with his friends to 2 am in the morning. That is when his phone started sleeping under my pillow. lol.
