I watched it happen to these youngsters too many times. I started a post about a couple young ladies I knew through my ex but decided to change it to a male experience for now.
We hired a 25 year old apprentice awhile back. He is a great carpenter and could do stuff with a welder and a door frame that I didn't even know could be done. He is a gem. A little over confident still to this day but I always thought I could reign that in because there's so much more to it than just a door frame.
He was a poster child for our apprentice program. Literally, on posters. I actually saw a little bit of 'young me' through him.
I never bothered to check what he was up to before we brought him in but....
I do a lot of work for the federal government where we need background checks to get in and we had some work at the naval base so I ran him through the protocol.
Turns out he was not allowed on the base because he was a registered sex offender??? my first thought was there had to be some mistake.
His mistake was, when he was 20 he had a 17 year old girlfriend and they liked to text and FaceBook pictures to each other that her parents found and thought were highly offensive.
When they found out they tried to have him thrown away for statutory rape, he had it pleaded down though still had to register and that's going to stick on him for life.
were her parents overboard? probably, but it doesn't make the outcome any less horrible.
