History is written by the victors. I don't think it is any more certain than the future. History is not a statue. Statues are just symbols of some belief. I'm sure you didn't mind when they tore down the statues in Russia or Iraq. These things don't change history. They simple reflect the emotions of people at a certain time. Like flags I don't think memorials are all that important. (I would much prefer to spend my time in the National Gallery or the Smithsonian.) In Memphis there is a statue commemorating the founder of the KKK. I do think they ought to blow up Stone Mountain. I've never been to Mt Rushmore but I think we ought to protect that. And you know I was appalled by the actions of the Taliban when they blew up the Buddhist works in Afghanistan. Nothing is easy.
