I have never been a biotech investor , I got made aware of the stock by a friend who's sister had previously attempted to get on the D Trial .
The first trade I did was on my mobile app and I meant to buy 500 shares at about $7 for a bit of fun and to see how it trades but actually bought 50000 as the US stocks trade to 100th of a cent and I never noticed on my phone app !!
First time I realised was a few days later when I got a call telling me my account was near close out as I was $150k down (I'd bought them on margin)... you couldn’t make it up ..ha
Anyway I stayed long and even bought an awful lot more as the trial was due to stop at the first IA and I was in the mood .
When German Exemption was announced I was actually in Munich on business in the lobby of the Oriental hotel , the pps shares rocketed, cant remember where it got to but I think $13 anyway it all looked good however as the price crashed back down I started to feel rather uneasy so I decided to dig a little.
Linda had put out a PR saying the exemption would take between 6 and 18 months to complete but it just so happened the guy that ran my Munich office for me wife was a GP and I asked her what she thought of this new wonder drug . She explained that since they had children she was no longer a GP but worked part time for Merck but straight off the bat she said there’s not a chance anything could be passed in 18 months let alone 6 in Germany , and she also explained that there is no way in to the health system there without GP referral and quite simply no GP would refer health tourists so at best it could be a privately prescribed treatment but no earlier than 3 years .
Now I told that story to some prominent posters here at the time as this was absolute prime information , and the response I got form one of the most intelligent posters on this board , was to set the tone for the next 7 years .
The said posters only response was 'well she would say that as Merck will have most to lose ‘ or words to that effect etc etc yea go nwbo etc etc'
I couldn’t be bothered to explain that Merck USA and Merck GMBH had feck all to do with each other and that kind of response to any and all posts pretty much has remained constant .
Sometimes I speculate on the board, but every time I’ve speculated something positive I’ve been wrong and every time I’ve been cynical about our calamitous management teams ability to tell the truth I’ve been right.
Please no responses from the ‘yea go’ brigade…
