Today, I watched "Saving Private Ryan". It seemed fitting for June 7. I've never been as emotional, while watching a movie.

I was watching The Greatest Generation, while living in the generation of Take a Knee, Defund the police, Black Lives Matter Antifa--and on & on! The contrast is sickening!

IMO, "Saving Private Ryan" has best depictions of combat, ever.

The D Day landing were brutal. The film should incredible heroism as well as some cowering. I ain't been there. I'll not judge them

I started getting emotional when it came out that 3 pf the 4 Ryan boys had been killed in the span of a week. Two on Normandy and one in New Guinea.

The decision was made to send an 8 man squad of Rangers, commanded by Captain John Miller ( Tom Hanks) to find and eturn Private Ryan to his family

But before the decision was made there was a controversy about the decision. General George Marshall made the decision to go. But before he announced his decision, he took a letter , from a bible.

It was a moving letter to a mother that had lost 5 sons. The lettr was signed. President Abraham Lincoln.

The next scene showed an Army staff car approaching an Iowa farm house. Mrs Ryan saw the car coming. She knew it was binging bad news.

She walked onto the porch and two officers came up to her. She knew that one of her sons was dead. The officers handed her some paper and spoke to her. Mrs Ryan collapsed.

I spontaneously shouted:

GODDAMN take a knee! Throughout the film, I quietly repeated it,

The film had a wonderful scene about The Citizen Soldiers of The Greatest Generation.

Captain Miller's squad has just lost and buried two of their comer ads. Some of his men wanted to hurry after the Germans. Others were saying the mission wasn't worth the price.

You could see that Captain Miller was at his limit. He steeped back form the yelling soldiers. They stopped the commotion and looked at him. Very quietly, almost to himself he said:

"I'm a school teacher. I teach high school English Composition. All I want is to go home to my wife"

His men stood looking at him, then one by one they patted him on the shoulder, saddled up and went after the Germans.

I wondered if this amazing movie won the Academy Award, for 1999.

It didn't. This during the Clinton years. Hollywood had already started showing the anti American stripe down its' back.

Private Ryan was nominated. I reread that caused a controversy.

The Best Picture Academy Award, that year was "Shakespeare in Love"

Produced by------Harvey Weinstein
