Actually, his friends at the National Enquirer tried that several weeks ago. (It is well known that the owner of the Enquirer is a close friend of Mr Trump and frequently tries to help him out by going after political opponents, media critics, etc.)

But the best they could come up with is that Rachel is a lesbian (she has been quite public about it); is not attractive (she never claimed to be); and MSNBC has to spend millions of dollars to make her look presentable on camera (no evidence to support this).

Rachel has some of the highest ratings at MSNBC and has even defeated Fox News on a few occasions in her time-slot. If Mr. Trump insulted her, chances are her ratings would go even higher.

As for why he doesn’t insult her, they were never friends, and they never had a relationship of any kind, so he is not as angry with her as he is with Mika. Mr. Trump does not appreciate what looks to him like betrayal, and in his view, Mika and Joe betrayed him— they used to be friends with him and now they criticize him. Given his need for approval, losing the adulation of Mika and Joe bothers him.

But since he never had Rachel’s adulation, he has no reason to go after her. She is, to him, just one more member of the so-called “dishonest media,” and he prefers to focus on people he believes have been disloyal, or people he believes are being especially unfair.
