Power Usage at Datacenter / Telecom Facilities

I received a question from a reader that I think is beneficial to pass along:

I still have one question about polymers, sorry that I bother you but you are my only reliable source because MZ group gives no answers at all.
You described the fact of lower power because of the no drive solution but what about cooling.

I was told that cooling is one the big problems in data centers, what is the effect of polymers, can polymers lower the need of cooling?

My response:

Cooling is inextricably linked to power dissipation. As such, any reduction in power dissipation at the plant will reduce cooling demand, along with the additional power needed to provide cooling.

Please keep in mind, the actual power used by the modulator itself is negligible. Photonics modulators only draw nano-amps (10e-9) of current at low voltages. Since power is the product of volts x amps, the modulator will draw less than micro-watts (10e-6) of power. However, the supporting circuitry, namely the modulator driver, does require/dissipate a significant amount of power. Since LWLG modulators can be “Driverless”, that means this power-hungry driver device (one required for each modulator) can be eliminated, which may significantly reduce overall power consumption at the facility.

By the way, I see no added value in MZ at all. They aren’t marketing and they are at least as bad at IR as LWLG. So far, the only effect of having MZ is an echo of a received PR from them two seconds after I receive the same from LWLG. Why are they retained? What am I missing? Are they the ones that set up the Noble Conference? I agree with Inversor, this is not the type of event LWLG should be involved with.
