Probably only 40 patients or so have completed the AD study, most rolling over to OLE and +/- 200 are in the blinded 48 weeks with another 200+ to be enrolled, hopefully by the end of the year. Therefore, statements like his do matter, even if well intentioned. Macfarlane seems to be a self-promoter who is throwing his lot in with Anavex. I know some other self promoting doctors like him but none of them has ever talked the same way about a trial in progress.
