Without wishing to be held to a particular mechanism or mode of action, in some instances the method can be more effective with metallic glasses containing elements that are reactive with oxygen. For example, zirconium is more reactive with oxygen than platinum. A zirconium-based metallic glass can adhere more closely to a glass (e.g., silicate) mold than would a platinum-based metallic glass.
