North400 re:

You mention Nickel used in LI battery production—what about Cobalt(said to improve making/working of Li batteries) and the Canadian company that is working to open an additional cobalt-laden mine in Idaho that seems closer to Nevada(TSLA battery plant) than the African mine facilities operated by Glencore? Notice who Glencore is now collaborating with?

Amarin has already partnered with a Canadian company as well as Eddingpharm in China to bring V to market sooner— will those markets not assist to keep Amarin share price steady or increase further?

Sorry but what you've stated is OUTDATED due to FAST CHANGING TECHNOLOGICAL Trends:

See the Elaboration below:

Well I believe I got down to the bottom of this by myself the SAME day when Glencore (I scan LOADS of news) announced they were CLOSING down the largest Cobalt mine in the WORLD earlier this month::

Glencore to halt production at world's largest cobalt mine - FT
Aug. 6, 2019 2:03 PM ET|About: Glencore plc (GLCNF)|By: Carl Surran, SA News Editor
Glencore (OTCPK:GLCNF -1.4%) will shut down production at the Mutanda mine - the world's largest cobalt mine - in the Democratic Republic of Congo beginning at the end of this year, Financial Times reports.

The company believes the mine is "no longer economically viable" amid sharply lower cobalt prices, according to the report.

Glencore said last week it faced a $350M hit because of lower cobalt prices and has launched an overhaul of its under-performing Africa business. /

Cobalt is primarily used in the manufacture of magnetic, wear-resistant and high-strength alloys. The compounds cobalt silicate and cobalt(II) aluminate (CoAl2O4, cobalt blue) give a distinctive deep blue color to glass, ceramics, inks, paints and varnishes. Cobalt occurs naturally as only one stable isotope, cobalt-59. Cobalt-60 is a commercially important radioisotope, used as a radioactive tracer and for the production of high energy gamma rays.

The latest trends in lithium-ion batteries: June 2019!

NICKEL-RICH BATTERIES
Lithium-ion batteries with higher nickel content will predominate in the coming years as the industry seeks greater energy density, experts agreed during Fastmarket’s 11th lithium supply and markets conference in Santiago, Chile.

“The rapid growth in nickel demand post 2025 could put the nickel market into shortage by 2030,” said Hoffman.

MOVING AWAY FROM COBALT

Social and supply concerns are encouraging the lithium-ion battery sector to look at reducing its cobalt consumption. The main concern is that almost two-thirds (66%) of global cobalt supply comes from the politically unstable Democratic Republic of Congo, according to US geological data.

Cobalt is rarer than other metals used in batteries such as lithium and graphite and it is typically produced as a byproduct, meaning it generally comes from nickel or copper mining.

“The industry is getting a lot of pressure from end-users after child labor in the Democratic Republic of Congo was exposed,” Gao said.

This social awareness has not only led important companies to perform due diligence procedures as regards responsible sourcing, it has also driven the development of new chemistry in li-ion batteries.

Higher nickel content batteries are already seen as the next step to lowering cobalt content.

The other problem with cobalt is that it is still the most expensive material in batteries.

“Nickel costs US$11,000/t, cobalt costs US$35,000/t and was at US$100,000/t. So you really don't want the cobalt around,” said Hoffman.

Manganese could be a good substitute, Hoffman added. “Manganese will probably be the metal that they will try to use, with the manganese market being 10 times greater than the nickel market,” said Hoffman.

SOLID STATE BATTERIES

Solid state batteries are seen as the Holy Grail in the lithium-ion battery industry.

SORRY FOR THE LENGTH!: NORMAL FOR ME IN MY Due Diligence

Bottomline: REDUCTION in use of Cobalt in Lithium Ion Batteries explored by Tesla/Panasonic' VW TO NON Cobalt or MORE NICKEL; no more than 3% of a Tesla's Cost to Manufacture.

FULL DISCLOSURE: Planning on buying in next few years an EV which will destroy TONS of jobs worldwide so I read most every article daily in the last year.
