Five men arrested for trespassing on roof of Trump World Tower in New York

At least five men were arrested Sunday night after they were seen on the roof of Trump World Tower in Midtown Manhattan around 8 p.m., according to NBC New York.

Justin Missner, 25; Samuel Burns, 20; Cameron Varela, 19; New York resident Thomas Durante, 22; and Pennsylvania resident Alexander Scott Patterson-Jones, 21, will face criminal trespassing charges, the New York Post reports. It remains unclear how the men got up to the roof.

Mysteries remain

The men were captured on video from NBC’s Top of the Rock cam for at least half an hour on the roof of the 72-story building, at times dangling their legs over the edge of the building. They had no visible safety gear.

Trump World Tower is located next to the United Nations building. The men were observed taking pictures while on the roof.

NYPD noted that signs clearly stated that the roof was for “authorized access only.” The roof stands 750 feet off the ground.

A number of people have been arrested in New York City for daredevil stunts that they then posted on social media. It is not known whether the incident was a daredevil stunt, however.

Trump World Tower is one of the tallest buildings in New York City. It was built from 1999 to 2001.

The building is well-known for its views of the East River and Midtown from darkly tinted windows.

At one time, many famous people like Steven Spielberg, Michael Jackson, and Johnny Carson had apartments at the luxury high-rise. The units are worth millions of dollars each.

But a number of recent tenants have disliked the increased security that had to be put in place after Trump’s election. Concrete barriers now surround the building, and the two main entrances are partially blocked.

The tower was the site of a meeting between the Trump campaign and a Russian group that was scrutinized by the FBI and Robert Mueller’s team. It also houses Trump’s 2020 campaign offices.
