Steelersfan, I've heard something like he is not a #1 pitcher for the 1,000th time, and it still doesn't make any sense. It is all relative how many guys would you take over zito right now in there careers.
1) Santana
2) Halladay
3) Zambrano
4) Carpenter
5) Willis
Guys I couldn't take over him but considered.
1) Pedro (Getting Old and is Hurt)
2) Verlander (Only seen him do it for a short period time need to see more)
3) Peavy (It is a close call here)
4) Wang (See Peavy it is a tossup in my opinion)
5) Mussina (Not as good but in my opinion deserves mention)
6) Schilling (Is getting older, still good though, but would take Zito)
7) Oswalt- In My opinion equal to Zito. Maybe he is a little better but it is debateable.
8) Webb- He is pretty good, but I rather have Zito.
9) Scmihdt- He is good, but I would take zito over him.
There are probably a few I missed, that belong on the list, but the discussion of whether he is a #1 seems ridiculous in my opinion. There can be a case made due to the fact that he doesn't seem to get injured that he may be the 6th or 7th best starter in the league. Last time I checked the 6th best starter or 7th best starter in the league is an ace. So he is a #1 in my opinion. Now you may question the talent level of the pitching staffs around the league, which is not good in my opinion, but Zito is a #1, almost everything in life is always relative. Keep in mind we are not comparing these pitcher to pitchers in the past, were comparing them to who is around today. All is just my opinion.
Geez I should have been a sports agent. LOL.
