Way back in the tumultuous 60s, a quiet and reserved biologist with a genuine gift for explanation wrote a book, Silent Spring. Although the large corporate interests fought her tooth and nail, her warnings of the dire consequences of the irresponsible use of pesticides resulted the banning of many of these harmful chemicals. Sadly, in the 21st Century, we live in a different social and political climate that in many ways is apathetic concerning what we put into the water, the air, the soil, and ultimately in ourselves.
