Howdy folks, I'm reading 1984, by George Orwell. It's about government control ( Big Brother) of everything. It was written in 1949.
It's amazing how many of Orwell's futuristic projections are in evidence today. Today it's not Big Brother, it's Progressivism.
1984 "centers on the risks of government overreach, totalitarianism and repressive regimentation of all persons and behaviors within society" (Quote fm Wikipedia).
I doubt the Left has fashioned their methods from 1984. It's probably just a natural progression of Progressivism.
Big Brother is about mind and thought control. Independent thought is forbidden and punished. Those suspected of independent thought are arrested and tortured until they comply with "Newspeak".
A standard procedure, to ensure Newspeak, is for the inquisitor to hold up four fingers, in front of the malcontent and ask "How many fingers do you se? The correct answer is five".
Severe pain is induced on the victim, until he/she answers "five". The victim eventual belies the answer is five. He/she is then released to fulfill their place in Big Brother's society.
We aren't there yet but Progressives have society moving in that direction. In 1984 there is no independent mass communication. Instead of television their is "Telescreen". It's every where, 24/7. On walls in homes, work places, public places and it's two way. Big Brother watches everything through Telescreen.
When Big Brother sense a threat, he demonizes it. Key words and phrases are ordered to be loudly repeated by "loyal citizens" until the threat is demonized out of existence.
We can see that on FOX News, when it shows kaleidoscopes of the Left repeating the same words over and over.
"Not who we are, un American, children in cages, racist, Nazis, faciest, demented, tariffs will destroy our economy" on & on.
A recent example of a threat to Big Brother is the case of an obscure professor, Dr Fang Zhou, from tiny Gwinnette College, in Georgia.
Dr Zhow is a Chinese legal immigrant, that speaks out against illegal immigration, in his class room. He was raising a small amount of local dust. Then he went national by appearing on Tucker Carlson and spoke out against illegal immigration.
He became a threat to Big Brother.. He's especially dangerous because he's an academic person of color and a legal immigrant.
Big Brother has decided he must be demonized into silence. I wanted to send him a message of encouragement. I Googled "Prof Fang Zhou
I found link after link, demonizing him. I found two contacts for him. Both said "Can't be opened by AOL".
Big Brother really is watching.
