I do think the entire Volkswagen story was interesting.
Porsche may very well be right that they were not trying to manipulate the price. Only finding a slight of hand that allowed them to effectively increase their stake with nobody seeing prior to the actual buyout. They actually even acted to relieve the pressure by selling some shares (of course at a very nice price).
If you go back and look at the charts, VW actually was bought out for a reasonable price, something like 2X of where it had dropped to pre-squeeze. But well below the brief squeeze spike.
Both longs and short traders lost/profited on the spike depending on how they traded it. The long term longs who simple held ended up with the spike being a total non-event (though I would have hoped some had the sense to see the market error and take advantage).
