Yes, they do.

The most famous short squeeze post WWII in stocks was Porsch-VW. What Porsch did would almost certainly have been illegal here in the US.

BTW, the only other true short squeeze I have seen was Shkreli's manipulation of KBIO. Of course we know how that ended.

Kind of ironic that those who rant against manipulation (true or not) also call for illegal manipulation by theu side to create such a squeeze.
