Working for European companies can suck balls. An old girlfriend worked in IT/financial program implementation for SocGen in Chicago and them London - hated the people and the work environment and the way she was treated. She took a gig with Montgomery in SF and loved it.

Another former girlfriend and now friend put in a solid 20+ years with Swedish private food packaging company Tetra Pak - absolutely terrible company to work for - low pay, zero chance for advancement, and endless travel to shitholes like India for long periods. She has a Ch.E., an M.S. in Polymer Science, and an MBA from Kellogg - prior work experience at Eastman-Kodak, Dow Chemicals, and Kraft Foods - now at 55 she was still a manager at Tetra Pak after 20 years with them. And now, they just relocated their US HQ from northern Illinois to Denton, TX for tax reasons - and she's taking the shitty severance offer because she doesn't want to move to Texas at her age and she hates the company and especially the dickheads from the Swedish home office HQ who make all the decisions on everything.

Nott all Euro companies are shitty - Novartis and Roche are nott bad IF you gett a gig in Suisseland. Butt a lott of Euro companies are unpleasant places to work as an employee. At least an Merrikano.

As I wrote previously, VERY different cultures and nott very many of them have the Americano-style of pampering employees and growing talent - the Euroe seen to be more lockstep and treat employees as fungible - if you're gonre tomorrow, they feel that can simplt replace you with another droid doing your yobb the same as you did.

Again, nott all by any means - butt some Euro big corps are very bad places for folks with Merrikan laid-back, flexibilty, and hope for fast merit-based advancements to perch.

It's very hard to a lott of Euro companies o fire or layoff employees, so I think they look at them as fungible human capital and when they hire them the expect to work the shit ~OUTTa them except for the annual holiday ritual. Merrikuns work more total hours/year than Euros, butt I'll bett most Euros work a lott more shittier hours than we do. They are nott places for high-performers seeking rapid career development - they are somewhere between working for GM and the government (same thing now I suppose) - butt with pressure to actually produce shit - sometimes meaningless shit and makework or cover-the-management's asses reports.

My friend at Tetra Pak should have left long ago, butt she was tied into a big mortgage in Vernon Hills a short drive to the former Tetra Pak campus and was a single mother, so she stayed for 20 years until the HQ moved to Denton and her daughter graduated collitch (at USC film school last May BTW and now works in the entertainment management biz in InnaGrille-land. I urged her to come to Silicon valley and use all those credentials and knowledge - butt she was too timid as a single mom with a big mortgage - thought it was too risky. Too bad, she could have done great here. Here older brother who gott is M.S, Mechanical Engineering made many millions on a Mac add-on board that allowed faxing and phone control/access control. If she would have come ~OUTT here, I have no doubt that she would have been very, very successful.
