You would be surprised.

eBay has previously said that the attempted sale of securities is one of the categories of auctions they have to remove most often. I guess that means a lot of people would be that uninformed.

It also does not help that a lot of people do not understand what a stock certificate is, and what it is not. Unlike, say, money, which can be spent by anyone who has possession of it, a stock certificate is registered with the transfer agent/registrar. Unlike paper money, which can be spent by whoever has possession of it, a stock certificate is not a bearer instrument at all. Instead, it is a registered instrument, and it must be legally transferred with the transfer agent. That costs money, and can now be quite difficult with old paper certificates.

Rock Creek is old enough that there are undoubtedly at least some paper certificates for Star Scientific out there. I bet some eventually show up on the internet for sale once RCPIQ is officially cancelled at the conclusion of the bankruptcy case.
