The elegance of the progesterone theory:
is that it does not need to prove one specific cause which fits all of the pieces which may be responsible for AD. Neither does it necessitate that there be a single cause which fits every scenario for conditions where the prevalence of AD is higher:
Female brains over male brains 2:1
Poorer, less industrialized countries
The saving grace of progesterone as a value to investors here is that it inhibits the sigma 1 receptor. That proves that whatever the cause or causes - whether it be lack of quality sleep, gingivitis, diet - high fructose corn products, weed killer, other drugs or any cause(s) which can be posited as a link, which impair(s) mitochondrial function along with natural autophagy...the progesterone inhibition of the sigma 1 receptor proves that females WILL be S1r impaired and susceptible to the effect(!) of EVERY cause twice as often as males due to the S1r “knock out” rate being higher than males.
While all neurons may be created equal, the impairment rate will create the skew, no matter what.
If a boxer ties one hand behind his back during half of his fights, it doesn’t really matter if his/her opponent is a right hander, a south paw, has a wicked hook, great footwork, jabs, etc.
Females have endogenous progesterone which impairs the S1r monthly over decades - enough to interfere with autophagy and allow damaged cells to “gunk up” their brains over time at a higher rate than males. Add: BCP’s, morning after pills, new BCP’s which can reduce menstruation to 4 times per year, for convenience, hormone replacement therapy pills, and viola - you have the resulting statistics.
It’s not longevity or lifestyle.
FACT: Proves that AD goes through the sigma 1 receptor. And, with the Amyloid plaque theory gone, that’s very good news for us.
No other theory accounts for every piece of the statistics on prevalence of AD simultaneously. This does.
So, it doesn’t have to be a cause which predominantly affects females. Please keep that in mind. Based on this theory, nature is the culprit and accounts for the skew in the data. Just have remember that this only holds true (women, wealthier more advanced countries) if it goes directly through the S1r.
Far more research available which proves this. Enough here to get the point across.
Thanks for staying “woke” on the sleep front, nidan / superb. I think we got this! (Missling, from the start.)
