OK, here are two pages from the 737 FCOM (Flight Crew Operations Manual). This is actually an FCOM for the classic series (-500 to be precise) but supposedly the procedure remains unchanged. The first is the index page where abnormalities are listed alphabetically. Bold Print large font means the entire checklist is memory items. Bold Print small font means the checklist consists of some memory items. Runaway Stabilizer procedure is shown to be on page 9.1:

Everything above the dashed line (above Step 5.) are memory items. If the crew had completed the memory items, they would have saved themselves.

Part of the training is to not only know the memory items, but to know your way around the FCOM so you don't have to fumble around looking up things you're already supposed to know!!

That information coming off the CVR is mind blowing!!
