Thanks you for asking. I entered the Service in 1947 so I am not a WW 2 Vet. I qualified on the submarine USS QUILLBACK in 1948. During the Korean War my submarine so no combat duty. I met many WW 2 Submarine Veterans that were still in the Navy at that time. Their stories will live with me for the rest of my life.

Before I got out of the Navy I was assigned to Submarine School Staff in Connecticut and I worked for CMDR R. H. O'Kane, the surviving commanding officer of the USS TANG. Even though he received the Congressional Medal of Honor I heard him say that he had failed in bringing all of his shipmates home.
