You are correct. Companies do not recognized gains or losses when dealing with their own stock. So ACB could buy back shares without any negative impact to the company.

But a share buy back is a pipe dream. Aurora did not issue all of those shares just to buy them back. Aurora is conserving its cash (which they should be doing) but all those shares really don't help the stock price at all.
