Never should have invaded Iraq which was a colossal blunder but Syria is a different matter

I disagree for a few reasons.
First is, Iraq shares a border with Syria, which means, we can be there (Syria), without being there.
Secondly, The regime in Iraq is, if not friendly, at least a lot more cooperative.
Third, Iraq also shares a border with Iran. Again, a geographic advantage to a presence in Syria.
And finally, there is the economic interests. Iraq has oil, Syria does not.

So, with Isreal to the Southwest of Syria, our presence in Iraq for both geographical, political and economic reasons makes more sense.

I would be interested in why you think it is more important for us to be in Syria than Iraq.
