Yes LeBois, oil can free flow later even if it does not during drilling. There are several factors:

1. The weight of the drilling fluid is actually designed to keep liquids in the formation from rising to the surface. Its call a "balanced" condition when the drilling mud does not flow into the formation and formation fluids do not flow into the wellbore.

2. After drilling, the well is swabbed which removes the drilling fluid and momentarily creates a vacuum in the wellbore that the formation can flow into.

3. Acid stimulation eats away the shavings that are packed against the outside of the wellbore by the rotating bit during drilling, and also opens passages from the fractures and pores to the wellbore.

It's always exciting to see oil during drilling, but when you really want to see it is when swabbing after perf and acid.
