Oh and I communicated with that russian guy Roman of iTraq. You learn real fast he isnt a big fan of Gregg. That was my final decision point. Roman is affiliated with this Russian Software Company. (I forget the name at this point) that appears to have done the original firmware. After what you stated, i have reason to believe they may have poison-pilled the firmware because gregg clearly ripped them off. As they paid him for something like 30,000 modules. ITraq doesnt sell that CellId version because it never worked for the same reasons we both have stated. They ended up designing their own version with the same MediaTek Chipset. A person could have a phone and one of those tags and it was always reporting the tower... meanwhile the simple cellphone would have a more accurate location. And that was the simple testcase I was asking gregg to do for me. A simple Real World Use Case.
The geotraq website prior to the current one, had a range of so called partnerships and affiliations and this is how my own buy vs build searches via google came across Geotraq. Currently iTraq is on their 3rd Generation of their Asset Tracking Device and yes... it is GPS related. They also went down the CellId route and came across the same issues from a lack of understaning of how things work in telecom. Bottom line it is DoA. Which proves a point that if it could have been done. It certainly would have been done by more experienced companies.
