[Strzok fired] President Donald Trump Team Destroying Careers Of Comey Witnesses One By One | Rachel Maddow | MSNBC
MSNBC
Published on Aug 13, 2018
Rachel Maddow points out that six of the seven people James Comey told about his meetings with Donald Trump are gone or leaving the FBI, with the one who hasn't been made into a political punching bag, David Bowdich, firing Peter Strzok, contrary to FBI personnel office guidance.

Notes:
Comey No 1, McCabe No 2 and Strzok, head of FBI Counter Intelligence Division, lead on the investigation all fired, removed from office, and each "turned into a political punching bag." All three threatened with prosecution. Then there is Flynn, Papadopoulos, Manafort, Page and others, including a coterie of Russians. Donald's personal involvement not yet fully determined. Comey, wrote notes after one ever more important meeting where Flynn was mentioned, and in his congressional testimony listed the job titles of witnesses he had who could verify his noted version of the situation. The only one of the bunch, starting with Comey, still at the FBI is the FBI Associate Deputy Director, David Bowditch (see 8:32). He's apparently moved from no.3 to no. 2. Bowditch allegedly directed Strzok be fired even though the Office of Personnel Management said uh uh. All the others of Comey's corroborating witness, that Trump had asked Comey to go easy on Flynn, are gone from the FBI. Giuliani now says Trump, if asked the question, will say he never talked to Comey about Flynn. So Rudy is saying, before the fact, his client will lie to the FBI if asked certain questions. You're not giving anything away there, Rudy.

These claims also fit another part of the White House strategy: to discredit the investigation itself. In a weekend tweet, Trump called it an “expensive Witch Hunt Hoax” that seems endless. But other investigations of presidents have taken much longer and Mueller has racked up some real successes in a little over a year. (The Watergate investigation took two years.) According to The Washington Post .. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2018/05/17/mueller-trump-russia-investigation-one-year-anniversary/?utm_term=.0d8681bbfe4a , in its first year, “Mueller’s team has charged 19 people [thirteen of them Russians], as well as three companies, and secured five guilty pleas.” One person has already gone to jail. And the recidivist Paul Manafort may be headed there, the Mueller team having charged that he’s violated the terms of his bail by witness-tampering.

Of course, it would be unwise to deploy this strategy blindly. The kind of universal obstruction pioneered by McConnell during Obama’s presidency is not in Democrats’ nature: They believe in the smooth functioning of government.
p-But Democrats’ concern with delivering results for their constituents is also part of who we are and something we should embrace. Even for innately cautious Democrats, some issues demand dramatic action. If Trump wants to put their concerns about his legitimacy to rest, he can reach out with consensus nominees and policies, and come clean about his ties to Russia and his tax returns (which may show whether he has compromising financial debts to Russian interests). Until then, Democrats can stand up for America by withholding their consent.
