Yes, the goal is for Israel's energy independence, but you can't deny the headlines in the news regarding setting a new agenda of reducing europe's dependence on Russian energy. While at the same time, Israel would provide an out to Iran's attempted control of a 1/3 of the world's oil through the Strait of Hormuz.
