Well Test Step 1 - Open Hole

Looks like MrBojangle and Rsummers teamed up to find an informative document from the Energy Ministry. Good work!

It would have been good to have had this document a few months ago to frame the testing discussion. We talked about most of the tests, but it is very helpful to have it in the format that the Energy Ministry wants to see.

Much data would have been collected while drilling that is not formally part of the test forms. It would include things like gas composition and oil shows from the mud logs. The Energy Ministry would already have this info when testing commences since drill data is submitted daily.

Let's start with discussing the first step in testing, which is done before each section is cased with steel pipe. So, the rock bore is open at this point and the drilling mud is in the bore.

WL = Wireline and includes tests like RFT, MDT and RCI.

Wireline means tools are lowered on a wire, which is must faster than being lowered on pipe.

So, the first column just lists all the data that is desired from the wirelines. Its things you would expect like formation pressure (not mud pressure), permeability, fluid types if any, etc. This data is used to determine which zones should be testing after the well is drilled and cased. So, this data (along with shows while drilling) was used to identify the 3 primary and 2 secondary zones of interest.
