I do't believe they are a competitor at all actually. They are selling a different way to check your glucose level by wearing a sensor and then scanning the sensor for a reading. The reading then forms a graph.

The ALRT system is an actual management system that has adjustable insulin dosage and predictive A1C technology, it also reports to care takers to ensure proper care is administered and hence greatly reducing medical costs and more severe conditions arising.

That's why it's so attractive to government healthcare providers because it exponentially reduces the cost of care over time.

Where as the FreeStyle is just another way to check glucose, majority of reviews say it is very inaccurate.
