Bio, Nidan, Things will really heat up in the M&A arena shortly when RS and PD trials are announced. Don't think that Anavex's PR was not dropped on the CEO's desk of every BP this morning and will result in business development meetings on friday. As I said before, Anavex is is both Biogen's biggest threat (MS and AD) and hope, if they can get in early. With three major trials rolling this year CM will be in the driver's seat and the cat will be out of the bag in the eyes of other BP's. The problem for all of them is that the wide application of 2-73 (and 3-71 by Sigma-1 extension) makes licensing and partnership complicated. So, IMHO there will be more than one buyout offer on the table before the end of the year. Biogen with 2-73 in their lab and Aducanumab, BAN2401 and Opicinumab trial outcomes very iffy, will be most aggressive. CM has an invite to come up to Cambridge now or will have one very soon.
The challenge for Anavex, given future positive trial results, will be measuring the steps of transition from a tiny biotech to a functioning pharmaceutical company in light of the immense demand for it's drugs. I've contrasted Anavex's dozen or so employees with Biogen's 7000+ employees covering all the fiunctions of R&D, production, marketing and sales before. That must be measured against the pros and cons of partnership or sale of the company. The stakes are so high that a full on bidding war and/or a possible "hostile takeover" attempt is a very possible result.
All in all a very turbulent but exciting period ahead. As the say in the flying world.... "months and months of boredom interspersed with moments of stark terror".....in our case, elation.
The winners, of course, are the many children and adults around the world suffering from terrible neurodegenerative diseases. God speed AVAVEX.
