well, the republican-dominated House voted to take food assistance from 1.5 million veterans and thousands of disabled people simultaneously with the trump family splitting policy. So much for taking care of our own first.

Your logic on it being a deterrent is the same as Stephen Miller's, who thought it up. If you haven't noticed, it has backfired, as many who are actual refugees are willing to take the risk rather than face the violence in their place of origin. It was originally meant to be leverage for funding for building the stupid wall, but now all it looks is like hostage taking.

The undocumented immigrants do much less crime per capita than american born citizens. I agree that spending tons of money on picking on them is money basically wasted, as there are tomatoes rotting in the fields in florida and avocados rotting in california as a result in the crackdown. The unskilled, non English speakers who are largely from agricultural backgrounds really don't threaten american workers, all we should be concerned about is keeping the bad guys out, with screening... a giant, expensive wall is probably not the optimum idea, as most immigrants do not cross into the U.S. that way. It should also be pointed out that more people are going back to mexico than coming in from mexico... so a wall would do what, keep them from leaving?
