Coinbase in talks with SEC to become licensed brokerage, WSJ reports
Cryptocurrency firm Coinbase has approached U.S. regulators over registering as a licensed brokerage firm and electronic-trading venue, the Wall Street Journal reports. The company has met with SEC officials recently about registering its business with the agency, the report says, citing people familiar with the matter. The move would allow the startup to expand the group of assets it offers to include digital tokens that the SEC has contended are securities and could put pressure on other cryptocurrency trading venues to submit to oversight by the U.S., the report say
