Hi Bob, The twisted axles are an interesting situation. Pete raced his 'Stang for years and I don't believe he ever snapped an axle or anything. He had switched the rear gears to 3.27 I believe, and rebuilt the "traction-lok" clutches but done nothing else. His car also had drum rear brakes.

I'll ask him about it next time we speak.

His schedule is pretty busy right now. He'd hoped to go get the car this coming week - in time to bring it back for a race at Blackhawk Farms in northern IL on the weekend of the 14th. When he has a date set and I know whether I can also head down with him, I'll give you some advanced notice.

I spent part of the day yesterday locating where I'll put the seat adjusters in the Cobra for the driver's side. Looks like I'll have to get some 1/2 inch square tubing to put under the aluminum floor where the adjusters will mount. The bracing that is there just doesn't line up well with these adjusters. The seat was installed too close to the left side door and roll cage which inhibited my steering the car to the left (elbow room wasn't good enough). There's a couple of inches available near the transmission tunnel, so I'll be shifting it to the right. Actually this puts the steering column directly ahead of the seat where it was aimed at the driver's right shoulder before. The ajusters will allow almost anyone to fit in the car. Arm length (since the column doesn't telescope) will be the only bugaboo.

I'm putting in a Steeda shifter kit as well. Nice piece of fabrication, that.

The 3-link rear suspension kit I ordered (this would upgrade the rear end to be like the FFR Cobras we drove out west) hasn't arrived yet, so I don't have to worry about that just yet.

I've not taken the car to the paint shop yet. I want to get two big stripes painted on it. Black would be the most logical color, but I'm also looking at charcoal gray metallic or possibly midnight blue. That won't happen before next weekend either.

Best regards, Tom
