Research is underway right now involving more than 160 girls in various clinical trials essentially following two strategies. One would be to use medicine to stimulate the gene to begin functioning. I’ve spoken on multiple occasions with the president and CEO of Anavex Life Sciences, Christopher Missling. The company expects to begin phase 2 of clinical trials with its drug this year.
Rettsyndrome.org is an international organization that has provided a network for families with a Rett syndrome child to network. It has funded $41 million in research since 1998 and is helping to fund Anavex’s work. Both Missling and Rettsyndrome.org say the trials are showing great promise. More on that to come as I continue to research their work. Missling said his company's work also has shown positive signs for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.
