No, I do not agree with their stand although I most certainly share their respect for the Ten Commandments and their love for the God that gave them. In the New Testament we are told to obey the secular laws we live under unless they expressly go against God's law. In this case, we are told to obey all God's commandments to the best of our ability but we are not commanded to display the Ten Commandments in a courthouse monument in defiance of National law.
Because you are a civilized American who is, not only secure with your God, but also law abiding.
It's about fear, mlsoft. Not a fear of God, but a fear of zealots who believe they have a direct line to God and an obligation to persue their beliefs through control of others.
With people like Pat Buchanan and his band of teletubbies, Pat Robertson, Falwell, et. al, I feel sure this separation will be upheld. I see very little difference between Osama and Falwell, they are both in favor of controlling the world with their beliefs. They all fail in the 'Judge Not, Lest Ye Be Judged' catagory. A significant teaching of Christ.
In my opinion America has it right. Everyone has a right to their own beliefs and the Government should have no part in this very precious and private matter.
I thank God every night for forefathers like Thomas Jefferson and his fellow Leaders for their foresight. IMHO, It's what made America special. Every American has an equal opportunity to make a contribution, regardless of their particular religion. Allowing Government a foot in the door may be one nail too dangerous to hammer.
