Dump 50K and watch the market sell orders trigger.....Hence the stop limit orders I use on something I want to keep.

Huh? Perhaps this is one of your "my brain works differently" moments? Cuz most people only set stop loss orders on something they're willing to lose, not keep. Unless you used a more sophisticated type of order, like trailing stop?

Anywho, after looking at the data more closely, that 346k shares were traded between in the span of exactly one minute - my software doesn't let me look at intervals smaller than one min on intraday charts. Odder still, is the charts also let me see the number of trades over the span of one min - but no number shows up when I put the crosshairs on the column that shows up on the chart, perhaps because the number is too large? The minute before there was 142 trades, the minute after 137 trades, and I ain't gonna download the raw data into excel to count how many trades occurred during the minute of the flash crash, but it was a very large number just by eyeballing it, and HFT driven.
