When I arrived in Pennyland I created model portfolios of some of the hottest microcap "plays." Generally those portfolios collapsed about 40% in a few months. That was around 1996-1997 when the broad market was strong. As I've said, pennies did have one good year... around 1998, and never again.
I also maintained a model portfolio of about ten .0001/.0002 stocks around 2004. It too was a loser. A huge problem is that it's difficult to follow pennies for long periods due to name/symbol changes, spinoffs, splits, suspensions, etc. Most pennies don't want to be back-trackable.
Contrast that with my blue chips like Boeing and 3M that can be easily researched going back a century or more.
